About the Agency

This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS) and is for one vacancy in each of the following locations: Mt. Holly, NJ, Taunton, MA and Sterling, VA.

If you are selected for a position with further promotion potential, you may be non-competitively promoted if you perform successfully and if recommended by management.

This position is also announced under vacancy number NWS-2017-0052, which is open to status candidates. You must apply to both announcements if you want to be considered for both.

NOTE:
This vacancy may be used to fill other Administrative Support Assistant, GS-0303-07/08 positions throughout NOAA. The position must be alike (e.g.: within the same geographic locations, same grade/band requires the same qualifications as indicated in this vacancy announcement).

Duties

As an Administrative Support Assistant, you will perform the following duties:
  • Advise supervisor of budgetary discrepancies or impending shortfalls; maintain budget record, monitoring commitments, obligations, and funding requirements.
  • Ensure new property purchases are added into the automated system, perform annual inventory for submission by supervisor, transfer property to other organizations, develop excess requests, and provide justification on unreconciled property.
  • Act as a liaison with NWS and NOAA Administrative Support Offices on all administrative matters.
  • Coordinate assistance and guidance on rules, regulations, and procedures concerning human resources related tasks which include, but are not limited to recruitment, promotions, details, awards, appraisals, separation, and compliance with existing policies and regulations.
  • Serve as the Travel Administrator for all personnel in office establishing routing structure for approving and certifying travel, maintain travel profile information to include mailing addresses, phone numbers, security clearances, government credit card numbers, and banking information.
These duties are described at the FPL GS-08, the GS-07 is developmental leading to such performance.
