Duties

As Resource Management Officer with the Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site you will: lead environmental and cultural resource monitoring and assessments; contribute to a cross functional visitor safety team; participate in helicopter and patrol operations, and; balance your time between being on the Chilkoot Trail and working in an office setting.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff a term position.

This process is intended to fill existing vacancy(ies) and may be used to fill anticipated vacancy(ies) and/or used to create a pool of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic profiles in same or other parts of the Yukon Field Unit.

Education

Minimum completion of two years of a post-secondary program related to environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, geology), or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a field related to the position.
Degree equivalency
Experience

• Experience in travelling or working in the field
• Experience participating in two (2) or more phases of field research projects, such as design, logistics, synthesis of background information, definition of data/sample collection requirements, data/sample analysis, presentation of results
• Experience using a variety of data/sample collection equipment and means of transportation
• Experience contributing to the preparation of technical/scientific reports and manuscripts drafts, presentations, web site information, public presentation or displays

Operational Requirements

• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment;
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, shift work, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.
• Willingness to obtain certification in the operation of various forms of ground (e.g. all-terrain vehicles) and marine (motorized and non-motorized vessels) as required.

• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks
• Wilderness First Aid (or equivalent) and CPR Certificate
• When position is located in area classed as isolated and remote, a pre-employment medical examination of an individual and his/her dependants may be required
