  About the Position:
  Perform Security Guard duties which include installation access, usage of physical access control equipment and visitor access on military installations. Safeguard Government personnel, information, operations, and critical assets in accordance with a wide variety of Federal rules and agency/local regulations/policies.

  Responsibilities

  
  

  • Performs security guard access control and patrol duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage and to enforce the security regulations of the installation.
  • Controls access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation.
  • Allows entrance to persons and vehicles that display proper authorization.
  • As initial point of contact, answers brief visitor questions, determines whether appropriate authorization for access exists, and provides assistance.
  • As required by instructions or force protection level, conducts vehicle searches/inspections (to include cargo areas, engine compartments and undercarriages).
  • Inspects containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial, governmental vehicles, and exercises tact, courtesy, and firmness in the performance of all force protection duties.
  • Maintains an activities journal to document shift activity and annotates shift statistics such as frequency of personnel entering and leaving assigned areas to obtain heavy traffic patterns, etc.
  • Assists Department of the Army police as required by rerouting traffic, crowd control, obtaining facts, taking statements, etc.
  • Operates two-way communications equipment to summon emergency vehicles and crews when assistance is needed.
  • Exercises emergency drills and equipment necessary to secure the installation.

  Qualifications

  In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.   Specialized Experience:
  To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience controlling access of vehicles, visitors and pedestrians into military installations; experience using automated systems to query and verify suitability for visitor entry into military installations; experience transcribing data using special codes IAW federal and state regulations (e.g. style codes, manufacturer's codes, wanted or missing persons, etc); and experience dealing with difficult customers who may be found ineligible for access. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

  Education
