Duties
The Motor Vehicle Operator position is located in the Transportation Section of Engineering Service at the VA San Diego Healthcare System in San Diego, CA.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Operates a vehicles with more than 37,000 pounds of GVW, including buses with 10-60 passenger capacity;
- Applies knowledge in hand and foot controls for starting, steering, turning, braking and stopping various types of classes of vehicles;
- Supports various medical center conferences, medical center outings for Veterans, overnight recreational outings (which may require the motor vehicle operator to stay overnight);
- Reads and analyzes data on special gages to ensure proper engine operation;
- Performs routing vehicle preventative maintenance checks and services;
- Transports patients, wheelchairs, visitors, specimens, prescriptions, medications, prosthetic equipment, supplies, laundry and other items and materials essential to patient care;
- Ensures that all scheduled transportation is on time and that veterans, patients and specimens are picked up in a timely manner; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
