This is an excepted service temporary seasonal position duty stationed at Voyageurs National Park. Duty stations and housing locations may be separated by several miles. Public transportation is not available. Due to current budgetary limitations and/or workload requirements, this position may be changed to a part time or intermittent schedule during the period of employment at agency discretion.
WHO MAY APPLY: APPLICANTS MUST BE CONTIGUOUS TO THE AREA: Applicants must be within or contiguous (adjacent to the park boundary and within 45 miles of the given duty station) to Voyageurs National Park; and maintained a permanent/exclusive residence for two (2) years contiguous to Voyageurs National Park.
Area Information: Voyageurs National Park is a unique water-based park, comprised of 218,000 gorgeous acres of water and glacier carved, pine studded islands.  The park is a four season destination, accessible by motorboats, kayaks, canoes, houseboats, snowshoes, cross country skis and snow machines. The park is nestled in the Minnesota Arrowhead Region, adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area and the Quetico.  There are four lake gateways into Voyageurs, including Rainy Lake, Lake Kabetogama, Ash River Trail and Crane Lake.  International Falls is the full service gateway community at the north entrance, offering a hospital, two medical clinics, shopping, school district, community college, movie theater, bowling alley, community center and a variety of churches.  International Falls also serves as the gateway to Canada, so those who are visiting Voyageurs may also include a day trip of sightseeing in our sister city, Fort Frances, Ontario.

Duties

Responsible for staffing the visitor center information desk, answering visitor questions, assisting visitors with trip planning and reservations, conducting sales for the cooperating association bookstore and assisting with daily operational tasks.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement Monday, April 17, 2017. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sectors. Additional information on the qualification requirements is outlined in the OPM Qualification Standards Handbook of General Schedule Positions. To qualify for this position, you must possess the basic qualifying specialized experience and/or education listed below as well as required education and selective factors as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire.
Applicants must meet the following selective factors in addition to the basic qualifications.
FACTOR: Selective Factor - Contiguous to the Area: Applicants must be within or contiguous (adjacent to the park boundary and within 45 miles of the given duty station) to Voyageurs National Park Applicants must meet the following basic qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: Possess six (6) months of general experience.  General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.  Examples of general experience include, but are not limited to, collecting and accounting for fees, greeting visitors, disseminating information, providing directions, or other clerical/office work that indicates the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position.
OR EDUCATION:  One year of education above  high school  (30 semester  hours or 45 quarter hours). This education was obtained  in an accredited  business, secretarial  or technical school, junior  college, college, or university.  (You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts indicating  number of credit  hours in order to qualify  based on education).
OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Equivalent combination of experience and education.
 For example,  3 months of the general experience equals 50% of the experience requirement, and 6 months of college study from an accredited institution equals 50% of the educational requirement for 100% of the total  requirement.  (You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts  indicating  number of credit  hours in order to qualify  based on the combination  option).
Education cannot be credited without copies of transcripts.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is often preformed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.
Driver's License: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
