The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania embraces 33 of Pennsylvania's 67 counties, making it geographically the largest district in the state. The district, which runs from the New York border on the north, to the Maryland border on the south, encompasses approximately 21,907 square miles, or roughly 47% of the land mass of Pennsylvania, and houses over 3,000,000 people. While much of the district is rural in character, it contains the following major metropolitan centers: Harrisburg, the State Capital, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport, York, Lebanon, and State College. The U.S. Attorney's Office has staff in three offices: Scranton, Harrisburg and Williamsport. Within this large, and diverse, judicial district, the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania represents the Department of Justice and other federal agencies in all litigation, civil and criminal, conducted within the District in which the United States, or a federal agency, is a party.

Duties
At the full performance level, you will support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a variety of legal assistance and office support services. If selected, you will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed.
Duties include:
- examining, preparing and processing a variety of technical legal documents, e.g., complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, subpoenas, and libels;
- providing assistance to attorneys in trial preparation;
- assembling exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents;
- assembling and organizing files and records material for disposition or transfer to records depository;
- maintaining calendar of assigned active cases;
- tracking filing, hearing, and trials dates, and scheduling conference and interviews;
- arranging travel by preparing itinerary and securing transportation and hotel reservations; and
- producing a variety of written documents and materials using a wide range of office software applications.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
