This a full time Temporary position located at the Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel, MD. Anticipated duration of appointment is 10 weeks however this position may be extended for a total of 2 years without readvertisement. This position may be terminated at any time due to lack or work, funding, or as the needs of the Service dictate.
Telework - the duties of this position are not suitable for telework. One or more positions may be filled from this vacancy.
Duties
As a Social Services Assistant (YCC Group Leader), your duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
Lead youth groups in a variety of land resource improvement projects.
Provide guidance and direction in all phases of work projects.
Plan and assign duties to program participants.
Provide safety training and ensure safety of group.
Counsel program participants on personal and/or group matters.

Qualifications
You must meet all qualification requirements outlined within this vacancy by 11:59 PM (EST) on the closing date of this announcement, Friday, April 21, 2017 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: In order to qualify for the 0186 Series you must possess one of the following:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level. This experience includes: Training and counseling youth; experience as a monitor, leader, supervisor, or instructor in organized work, recreation, educational, or residential situations; ability to work with youth and instruct others in proper work methods; skill in basic first aid; skill in using hand tools.
OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included a major in social behavior, human behavior, health care or a similar field. (YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS). ORSuccessful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position. (YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS). OR(YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS).The following qualifications are highly desired, but will not impact your overall rating:
-Valid State Driver's License

All new employees of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service must identify a financial institution for direct deposit of pay prior to appointment.
New employees who are expected to travel on official business are required to apply for a Government travel charge card within 30 days of their appointment.
Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of the background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.
Wearing of the official USFWS uniform is required.
