Duties

The position we are currently looking to fill is Operations Assistant.

What does an Operations Assistant do?
Schedules the Test of Oral Proficiency taking place across Canada and manages the schedule of a number of Assessors simultaneously.
Responds to inquiries and interacts with departmental clients via email and by phone.
Are the first point of contact for candidates at the Test Centre.
Responsible for administrative tasks relating to the TOP such as sending results to organizations and candidates.

What is the Test of Oral Proficiency (TOP)?
The TOP is a staffing tool used by departments and agencies to assess employees' proficiency in their second official language. It is a key step in the hiring process within the federal government.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process will initially be used to staff one position indeterminately (SLE Assistant). A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions on an indeterminate, term, assignment, secondment or acting basis within the Public Service Commission (PSC) in the National Capital Region (NCR).

A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.
Degree equivalency
Experience providing client services in person, by phone or in writing.
Experience using word processing software programs (e.g. MS Word).
Experience using spreadsheet software programs (e.g. MS Excel).

Experience researching, extracting, collecting information or manipulating data using systems.
Experience performing financial support functions (e.g. cashing and registering funds, managing petty cash, verifying or preparing invoices, etc.).
Experience managing a calendar, planning or organizing meetings.
Experience managing schedules for one or several persons.
Experience working in a stockroom.
Experience using presentation programs (e.g. MS Powerpoint).
Daily standing, stretching, bending, lifting and reaching to search and retrieve files and/or boxes (Maximum 15 kg).
(This requirement applies to some positions only and is not required for all positions being staffed).
