Administrative Assistant (Committees – Senate of Canada):
The work requires searching for and assembling information or documentation and preparing responses to inquiries from senators, other directorates, government departments, the media and the public. It requires remaining current on regulations, policies and issues before committees. The work is guided by specific, clearly defined administrative procedures and instructions to ensure that standards and client needs are met. The work also requires maintaining a recall system to ensure that follow-up action on outstanding projects is undertaken.
Administrative Assistant (House of Commons):
The Administrative Assistant provides a variety of confidential administrative and financial services to a Clerk Assistant, Principal Clerk, Deputy Principal Clerk and/or Manager within a designated branch/directorate to ensure the smooth functioning of key services. The administrative assistant also provides support for conferences, seminars, workshops, incoming and outgoing visits, and protocol activities.
The Committee Assistant (House of Commons):
The Committee Assistant is responsible for providing specialized administrative, logistical and publishing services to Procedural Clerks; to standing, legislative, joint (Senate), special committees and to the subcommittees of the House of Commons. The committee assistant also provides technical and research services and helps provide information to Committee Clerks, to other Assistants, as well as to other clients on Parliament Hill or to members of the public. The work is guided by specific, clearly defined administrative procedures and instructions to ensure that the high quality of information standards are met. - Prerequisites

Education
- High school diploma.
Experience- Minimum of 2 years of experience in at least 2 of the following 4 experience criteria:
- Experience in providing administrative support services;
- Experience in drafting and proofreading various documents such as meeting minutes;
- Experience in inputting and maintaining accurate data in a computer system;
- Experience in preparing and coordinating correspondence.
Asset- Experience in providing logistical support for internal or external meetings;
- Experience in coordinating travel arrangements;
- Experience in managing a manager’s inbox and agenda;
- Post-secondary education in a related field.

Selected candidates will be evaluated against the Procedural Services Competency Profile – Administrative Support and Senate of Canada Competency Profile.
- Outcome
- The purpose of this joint Senate and House of Commons recruitment and selection process is to staff various administrative positions on a temporary and indeterminate basis both at the Senate of Canada and House of Commons. A list of potential candidates will also be established that may be considered for temporary or indeterminate positions at the Senate of Canada and/or House of Commons.

- This is a joint recruitment and selection process that is being led by both Senate of Canada and the House of Commons.
- Salary scale – Senate of Canada: SEN-05 - $50,251 to $63,385 (under review).
- Salary scale – House of Commons: ADG-G - $50,877 to $64,376.
- Selected candidates who do not have valid second language evaluation (SLE) results will be assessed.
- There are different job descriptions and different language profile (BBB and BBC) associated to that recruitment and selection process.
