The Attorney General (“AG”) is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia, including the Lieutenant Governor, Cabinet and all ministries in government. The Ministry of Attorney General's Legal Services Branch supports the AG in fulfilling this statutory and constitutional mandate. LSB is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. All legal services to government respecting civil matters are delivered by LSB lawyers.

As a Legal Assistant, you will provide administrative and secretarial assistance to litigation counsel within the Barristers Division and/or Solicitors Division of the Legal Services Branch. This is a multifaceted position; your duties will include: compiling and organizing pleadings and books in proper form pursuant to Practice Directives and Rules that govern the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, Supreme Court of Canada and various administrative tribunals; coordinating, and scheduling hearings of interlocutory applications, injunctions, examinations for discovery, pre-trial applications, trials, and appeals.  You will also be responsible for maintaining a physical and electronic filing system. You are well versed in legal terminology, an effective communicator, collaborative team player, able to take initiative appropriately, and are able to work independently under pressure.

Qualifications:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

• Secondary school graduation is required, a Certificate in Legal Office Administration is preferred.
• A minimum of four years satisfactory experience in a stenographic/secretarial position in a legal environment.  Preference will be given to those with an extensive litigation background.
• Experience in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, Internet and other standard computer applications in MS Office.
