Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

To provide courteous and efficient courier services and other support to Toronto Public Health (TPH) employees and partners.
  • Delivers internal and external mail, boxes, and equipment and performs special courier requests to various locations throughout the city of Toronto, including: TPH offices and clinics, TPH partners, government agencies, medical facilities, office buildings, shelters, community centres, laboratories, and schools.
  • Carries heavy items including equipment, furniture, audiovisual items, office supplies, and boxes.
  • Loads and unloads items from vehicles, including heavy and awkward items.
  • Provides coverage for other courier routes.
  • Operates and maintains vehicle or coordinates maintenance.
  • Provides set-up of equipment such as audiovisual items for meetings, displays.
  • Transports staff to various locations.
  • Purchases supplies, prepares requisitions and maintains supply room; distributes supplies and performs inventory control.
  • Maintains office equipment or coordinates maintenance.
  • Performs clerical duties such as reception, data input, photocopying, filing, and mail sorting.
Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
  1. Experience as a driver/courier.
  2. Experience in utilizing a variety of Microsoft Office software programs, e.g. Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  3. Possession of a valid Ontario Driver's License Class "G" and a clean driving record with the ability to qualify for a City Equipment Operations license.
You must also have:
  • Thorough knowledge of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and the City traffic laws and familiarity with the City's Occupational Health & Safety policies.
  • Ability to use software packages relevant to the position.
  • Thorough knowledge of the location of major streets.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with the ability to work independently.
  • Sound judgement with the ability to deal with conflict.
  • Ability to effectively cope with change and shift gears comfortably with work assignments.
  • Ability to lift and deliver materials weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability and willingness to work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform required routine inspection of vehicles and to maintain vehicle in good, operational condition, keep it clean and tidy.
  • Ability to perform inventory control and prepare purchasing requisitions.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends depending on operational requirements.
