Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) position on an indeterminate basis.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various tenures (such as indeterminate or specified period, etc). These positions could have various security and language requirements.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. English or French
Information on language requirements
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in the kitchen area.
Degree equivalency
Significant* experience in performing a wide variety of high standard cleaning and general help services in a kitchen in large hotel or institution receiving dignitaries;

Experience in assisting in culinary preparation of basic items;

*Significant is defined as a minimum of three years.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of proper cleaning and sanitizing techniques for kitchen working material and equipment, including necessary products;
Knowledge of the general help duties in a kitchen or cafeteria;
Knowledge of client service techniques;
Knowledge of health and safety practices.
ABILITIES:
Ability to operate and use kitchen equipment;
Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting a weight up to 25 kg, stretching, climbing at the high of a step ladder;
Ability to provide basic/simple food preparation services;
Ability to multi-task and to establish priorities;
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

Secret security clearance
Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice.
Irregular shifts, including working evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
Wear uniform and anti-slip shoes.
Willingness and ability to lift and handle material weighing up to 25 kg.

TRAVEL RELATED TO THE SELECTION OR APPOINTMENT PROCESS
Please note that candidates (including employees of the Public Service) will not be considered to be in travel status or on government business and that travel costs will not be reimbursed. Consequently, candidates will be responsible for their travel costs.

RELOCATION EXPENSES
Candidates from outside the federal public service may be required to pay for their own relocation expenses.

Top-down selection may be applied; a cut-off score may be established after all scores are received. Random selection may be used at any time during the process to identify which applicants will be further assessed.

A security check will be administered and proof of citizenship, education, and at least 2 work references with names and applicable phone numbers will be required. Security Check will include a credit check and fingerprinting. Successful candidate(s) must meet and maintain the Conditions of Employment throughout their employment.
