Duties

Edit documents written in French or translated from English (comparative editing) and proofread documents in accordance with French grammar and style and Statistics Canada terminology and publication guidelines.
Conduct terminology research for the purpose of checking technical, administrative, promotional and other communications documents.
Write texts on writing techniques, communications practices, and French grammar, vocabulary and usage.
Sit on multidisciplinary project teams.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates may be created to staff similar or identical positions within the Communications and Dissemination Branch with various linguistic requirements, tenures and security requirements.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:

A degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution* with specialization in French studies, linguistics or translation**.

*Degree: A baccalaureate or higher level degree, as established by educational authorities.
**The degree must be obtained at the time of the nomination.
Degree equivalency
Experience:

Experience in comparative editing, editing French documents and proofreading in accordance with French grammar and style rules and terminology and publication guidelines.
Experience in using electronic work tools such as terminology banks and other language reference materials.

Bilingual - Imperative (CBB/PPC)
Information on language requirements
Knowledge:

Knowledge of Statistics Canada’s activities deriving from its mandate.
Knowledge of the writer-editor electronic work tools.
Ability:

Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
Ability to carry out a number of tasks simultaneously.
Ability to detect nuances in English texts and be able to edit in French (Code P) .
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Personal suitability:

Asset Experience:

Experience writing articles on language.
Operational Requirements:

Regular working hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Ability and availability to work overtime on short notice.
Teleworking is not an option with this position.
