Consider this opportunity with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre, where you will play an integral role in the accurate processing and maintenance of offender files and institutional records.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• Check offender records to verify the legality of admittance documents
• Calculate fines and/or verify sentences
• Performing a variety of keyboarding functions
• Maintaining up-to-date manual and electronic offender files and records
• Ensuring documents are completed upon notification of transfer or discharge of offender
• Provide authorized information to justice officials, law enforcement agencies, offenders and the general public

How do I qualify?

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• You have demonstrated knowledge of records management procedures
• You can interpret and apply legislation, regulations, statutes, policies and directives
• You understand office practices and procedures, particularly records keeping, filing and information systems

Arithmetic Skills

• You demonstrate strong attention to detail, and you can accurately calculate and reconcile offender sentences and fines

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

• You can identify and verify information and records for accuracy, and correct discrepancies

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can interact effectively with offenders, staff, justice officials and the public in a tactful and diplomatic manner

Organizational and Computer Skills

• You can maintain offender record and information systems
