About the Agency

This position is located in the Resident Services Directorate, Recreation Services Division, Recreational Therapy Section. The AFRH campus, in DC, offers a beautiful park-like setting and free parking for all employees.

Duties

As aTherapy Assistant, you will:
- Plan and implement a variety of activities that will stimulate, challenge and allow for success of the individual residents he/she is assigned to.
- Attend the assigned units resident Interdisciplinary Care Plan meeting.
- Program activities which encompass areas of Leisure Skills, Sensory Stimulation, Reality Orientation, Physical Exercise, Intellectual Stimulation and Arts & Crafts.
- Assist in the maintenance and inventory of equipment and supplies issued to the Therapeutic Recreation Division necessary to provide a comprehensive recreation program to the residents of the home.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-06, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience or General experience for this position includes: Providing therapeutic treatment to residents dealing with physical, emotional, and/or social disorders and communicating modifications or suggestions to supervisor for resident’s treatment plans.

You may qualify based on education directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirement.

OR

A combination of education and experience: In order to qualify under this option, you must have a combination the meets 100% or more of the requirement. This can be calculated as follows: First, determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then add the two percentages. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for this position. One year of graduate level education is generally considered to be 18 months. Therefore, if you have nine months of graduate level education and six months of qualifying experience, you would be considered qualified on the combination of education and experience.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume.
