The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, and where the parts of the systems worked on are in hard to reach places. The work requires considerable standing, climbing, stooping, bending, stretching and working in cramped, awkward positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Occasionally may lift items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance or use of material handling equipment.
Works both indoors and outdoors in areas, which may be dirty, dusty, and greasy, and in all kinds of weather. Subject to falls, cuts, bruises, possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, burns, injury from improper lifting, and illness from exposure to weather. Shops may be noisy.
Involves call back, emergency overtime, odd shifts and weekend work.
Must be able to wear personal type safety equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
This position may require ability to obtain licenses to operate Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG) and/or Construction equipment, upon notification as well as certifications for asbestos and respirator training.
May be assigned a stocked truck for which the incumbent will be responsible for managing the materials through inventory control and cost accounting.
Visual and sensory perception along with hand-eye coordination is required to detect deficiencies, make repairs, diagnose problems, and perform installations.
