About the Agency
The Internship Program provides students enrolled in high schools, colleges, trade schools and other qualifying educational institutions with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while completing their education. Veteran's Preference will be applied in filling positions under the Pathways Programs.

- Eligible students must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited academic institution and maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher.
- Students will be on indefinite appointments during their period of eligibility under the Internship Program.
- Interns will be required to sign an agreement that outlines the parameters of the Internship Program during employment with NSF.
- The Internship Program allows students an opportunity to be converted non-competitively to a career-conditional or term position once the student completes all requirements of the Internship Program.

Duties
This position is located in the Office of Budget, Finance and Awards Management (BFA), Division of Acquisition and Cooperative Support (DACS), Contracts Branch. The Contracts Branch is responsible for the planning, solicitation, negotiation, award and award administration of infrastructure, research and research support contracts for NSF.
The incumbent serves as a Student Trainee under a progressive training program in cooperation with an accredited college or university. Assignments typically include one or a combination of duties incident to assisting more senior staff members with various projects designed to facilitate the development of the student trainee. The Student Trainee could assist senior staff members with the following duties:
Utilizes common contract methods and types with well-defined contract actions such as fixed price purchases, cost escalation factors, socio-economic, material shortages and terminations. Monitors the administration of the contract until final delivery and payments are complete.
Recommends actions when the contractor is not in compliance with contract provisions. Investigates circumstances to determine and recommend alternative courses of action, such as extension of the delivery schedule. conducts contract reviews to evaluate contractor's performance, and monitors contractor activity to assure compliance.
Performs contract administration work such as monitoring of contract performance and negotiation of necessary contract modifications to ensure satisfactory progress and completion of contract activities.
Utilizes basic price or cost analysis techniques to analyze contractors' projected estimated costs for which historical or pertinent data are available.
Negotiates changes to agreements when precedents are well established and the bargaining positions are close.
Receive visitors and screen telephone calls for the office, referring calls and visitors to appropriate staff member.
Receive, control, and track correspondence and documents, requests, and Action Items. Follow up on all action items to ensure deadlines are met. Take action on routine correspondence, ensuring that response contains accurate data, and adhere to NSF policies and procedures.
