This position is located on the Anaconda Civilian Conservation Center in Anaconda, MT.
The mission of Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers (JCCCCs) is to train eligible youth, ages 16 to 24, with educational, social and vocational skills, while assisting in the conservation of the Nation’s public natural resources. Staff at the Center have the responsibility to assist students, peers, and subordinates in understanding the relevance of, and promoting the development of positive social skills among students through modeling appropriate behavior, positive intervention, and positively intervening and teaching appropriate employability skills for workplace success.
The incumbent of this position has the responsibility for providing leadership, guidance, and practical counseling to students in a group living environment.

The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.
Duties
Gives practical advice and counsel to students and proposes solutions to routine problems. Maintains order and discipline among students. Provides leadership and direction to students in performing daily housekeeping duties, work details, physical training, recreation, hygiene, etc. Serves as primary assistant to a Dormitory Manager. Schedules, coordinates, and supervises work details, recreational and other group activities. Follows supervisor’s instruction on assignments, deadlines, and priorities. Uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently.

For the GS-05 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level; OR a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours) that (a) included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position; (b) included a major in social behavior, human behavior, or health care or; (c) was supplemented by specialized experience as described below; OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Examples of specialized experience are: Group leader in community or residential recreation program; instructor in a training program for the development of job skills; work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew; and/or unit leader-monitor-proctor for a dormitory group or a boarding school or other residential facility.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the selectee to possess at time of hire or obtain within 90 days of hire a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement to transport students to work details, recreational or other group activities as required by the mission.
DRUG TESTING: This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). Selectee must submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and random testing thereafter. Final appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results for illegal drug use. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.
