About the Position:
This position is with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Director for Surgery, Department of OB/GYN, General OB & GYN, located in Bethesda, MD, and provides a full range of clerical and administrative services, primarily in support of the research efforts of the department.

Duties

As a Research Assistant, you will be responsible for independently managing the internal review process for numerous different departmental research studies. Review existing documents, prepare updates and corrections for Principal Investigator approval, and upload them to the Internal Review Board (IBRNet). Review and interpret regulatory guidance pertaining to research protocols. Screen patients for participation, interview, answer their questions, and document the informed consent of study participants. Monitor patients due for follow-up appointments and procedures, schedule follow-up appointments and coordinate necessary tests. Independently perform a variety of administrative support duties for the department, staff, and physicians such as data entry, composing correspondence, locating and assembling information for various reports, briefings, and conferences. Maintain and submit timecards. Maintain subject matter files and records, ensuring that all documents are properly signed and files are complete. Respond to routine requests for information.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: providing clerical/administrative support in a medical facility; assisting in research projects/studies; generating a variety of correspondence and/or reports using various automated systems; maintaining personnel files/records.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
