About the Agency

The selectee for this position will serve as a Mail Assistant in the NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER NORFOLK, Supply Management Department (SMD) Naval, District Washington (NDW) Postal Division, Team One onboard Joint Base Anacostia Bolling. As a as a Mail Assistant, you will perform a vast segment of postal operation duties and procedures to meet the mission requirements of the Department of the Navy in the National Capital Region.

Duties

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

• Ensures all incoming and outgoing mail is in adherence with all United States Postal Services (USPS), Department of Defense (DOD), and Department of Navy (DON) regulations, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Postal Affairs.
• Assists customers with all general, specialized, and technical postal support and mail services.
• Operates a motor vehicle in delivery and pickup of mail within the National Capital Region (NCR) using established scheduled routes.
• Receives, sorts, collects and directs the distribution of all incoming and outgoing mail within the National Capital Region (NCR).
• Operates a wide variety of automated mail processing equipment, automatic postage machines, automatic tracking equipment and FEDEX/UPS parcel shipping systems.
• Examines all materials for evidence of tampering, damage, compliance with packing and labeling requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-04
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of general experience in federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that demonstrates progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

Have successfully completed at least two full academic years of education above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Your percentage of the required education plus your percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-05
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following: process and handle mail by applying general policies and regulations; deliver correspondence and mail; process mail by operating automated machinery; completing and maintaining records and files.

Have successfully completed four years of education above high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

Security Clearance
-Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
-This is a Noncritical Sensitive position requiring a Secret clearance. The selectee must maintain eligibility for a security clearance and eligibility for assignment to a sensitive position.
Driver's License
-Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
-This position requires the employee to drive a government vehicle.
Pre-appointment Physical
-Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
-The work regularly involves prolonged standing, walking, and bending; frequent lifting/carrying of 70 pound objects; effort in loading/unloading vehicles; normal vision; hand and eye coordination; and manual dexterity.
-The selectee is required to pass an annual medical examination provided at government expense
Drug Test
-Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment. Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing. Drug test results will be provided to the employing activity/command.
Other Requirement
-The selectee must be enrolled and pass a series of postal correspondence course of study provided by the Department of the Navy.
Work Environment
-The selectee may be subject to discomfort from dust, vehicle exhaust. changes in temperature, and required to drive in all types of traffic, dock operations involve exposure to climatic variations and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents.
-The selectee is required to wear appropriate attire and safety equipment (safety shoes).
Uncommon Tour of Duty
-The selectee of this position is an "Emergency Personnel" and is required to perform his/her duties during emergency situations, that may occur on a regular scheduled workday or when caused by severe inclement and adverse weather conditions, and is required to report to his or her respective place of employment.
