About the Position:
This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Department of OB/GYN, General Obstetrics and Gynecology clinic, working with military, civilians, contractors, Residents, Medical Students, and staff physicians. The work is often sedentary, but there is occasional walking to various locations in the clinic/ medical facility; standing for prolonged periods of time; bending and reaching while filing; and, carrying light medical and office supplies, medical records and files. This position also requires frequent use of the hand held telephone while accessing different computer systems or while writing.

Duties
As a Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) you will perform the full range of front desk receptionist duties. You will enter, manipulate, and retrieve patient information and data from automated systems. Transcribe physician and nursing orders involving patient activities, diets, and medications. Complete request forms for patient orders such as blood work, and x-rays. Schedule appropriate patient appointments. Coordinate and/or schedule patient appointments with other clinics or specialties. Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically. Obtain identifying information. Maintain all patients' records, both, electronic or paper.
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working in medical treatment facility receiving/checking-in patients and visitors; scheduling patient appointments; and operating a health care system such as, Composite Health Care System (CHCS) and Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) to perform duties such as entering/modifying/retrieving patient medical records and inputting lab orders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Qualified Typist: In addition to the experience requirements above, this position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
