Summary

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position: Located in the scenic Hudson River Valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation. You can watch them on parade or competing as intercollegiate athletes in a wide range of sports events. As a military installation, West Point is a small, self-contained city with housing for the military stationed here in support of the Academy, a Department of Public Works to maintain the roads, grounds and facilities, two libraries (Academic and Community), a military hospital, fire department, chapels, restaurants. West Point's 3,000 civilian employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, the Hudson Valley's premiere performing arts center, and to recreational facilities such as an 18-hole golf course and Ski slope.

Duties

You will provide administrative support, budgeting, supply, coordination, scheduling and a variety of miscellaneous duties for the Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering. You will maintain a minimum of five Microsoft Access databases that track financial and property accountability for all areas of the Department. Maintain daily working balances for each research appropriation and adjust all account balances. Prepare report s and maintain records on account balances and status of funds. Receive and review requisitions from Program Directors in the department and numerous faculty researchers. Process all requisitions for nonexpendable and expendable property. Ensure fiscal and property accountability. Purchase supplies with government credit card. Perform a variety of administrative and support duties such as administration, file management, time cards, international correspondence, and reports. Handle all aspects of government travel for the department.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
BASIC REQUIREMENT: Qualified Typist of at least 40 words per minute.
Specialized Experience Required: In addition to meeting the basic requirement list above, Qualified Candidates for this position must ALSO identify in their resume that they possess one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the next lower grade level/pay band (GS-05) in the federal service that demonstrates the following: Experience with work that involves administrative support regarding travel, budget, supply management, procurement, time and attendance and the use of various software packages such as spreadsheets, word processing and databases.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
Ability to Communicate in Writing
Skill in Administrative Support
Knowledge of Budget, Supply, and Procurement
