WHAT DOES A STUDENT TRAINEE (MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT) (OA) DO? As a Student Trainee (Management Assistant), you will gain experience in management assistant activities while assigned to the Executive Resources Branch (ERB). ERB's major responsibility is the hiring and staffing of Senior Executive Services (SES), Senior Level, and GS-15 positions for the Office of Chief Counsel.
Would you like to help serve fellow Americans while being exposed to the work of a Federal career, including experience with solid work assignments that will help you grow professionally through training and mentorship? If your answer is YES, the IRS Office of Chief Counsel Pathways Internship Program is for you! This exciting program offers students with paid internship opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. You will be provided meaningful developmental work at the beginning of your career.
Following the completion of educational requirements, you may be considered for non-competitive conversion to a career-conditional or term appointment. In order to be converted, you must have completed educational requirements and work requirements (640 hours prior to graduation, unless you meet one of the exceptions specified on the OPM Intern Program information page).
If you are converted after completion of the internship, you will be placed into a Management Assistant position which has promotion potential to the GS-07 level upon meeting time-in-grade requirements and demonstrating possession of the required competencies.

Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-05:
- Maintaining records of management analysis data and reports, providing standard explanation of procedures and requirements, and compiling data into prescribed formats;
- Searching for, assembling, and summarizing information from files and documents;
- Reviewing reports to ensure compliance with established formats and inclusion of required information;
- Assisting in the review of reports for errors;
- Producing a variety of written documents and ensuring documents are in the proper format with correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
