Your Challenge

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Site Operations Supervisor with maintenance of the Vancouver Research Center. The site is largely self-contained and the supply and distribution of all utilities at the site are the responsibility of the department in which this person reports to.

We are looking for a vibrant and dynamic Maintenance Technician to support the Administrative Services and Property Management Branch of the NRC. The Maintenance Technician would be someone who shares our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity and collaboration.

This position will appeal to someone who enjoys working in a team environment with constantly changing priorities and new challenges daily. This position will be ideal for a self-starter who can also work alone. The successful incumbent should be someone who is open to learning and can provide their own input and ideas to benefit the workplace.

The successful candidate will maintain and troubleshoot equipment and systems in a safe manner in accordance with current codes and standards. The incumbent will perform and assist with scheduled preventative maintenance and daily work orders on equipment such as various types of pumps, potable water system, sewage system, fan coil units, air handling units, building automation system and the security system. They will coordinate the activities of maintenance contractors.

Other duties include; performing routine tasks to maintain the physical plant and keeping the site looking presentable and safe. He/she will have good communication skills in order to work from manuals, drawings, sketches and verbal instructions. In addition, the incumbent will also undertake other related duties as needed, such as but not limited to grounds keeping, snow clearing, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical.


Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:


Education

Secondary school diploma or equivalent, according to provincial standards.
Asset: maintenance or trade training including apprenticeship
For information on certificates and diplomas issued abroad, please see Degree equivalency


Experience

  • Significant experience in an industrial or commercial maintenance environment.
  • A combination of training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting equipment such as: pumps,motors potable water system, sewage system, fan coil units, air handling units, building automation system and security systems, mobile equipment or vehicles.
  • Experience with PPE, and workplace safety procedures

Must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities to perform the position which include but may not be limited to: crouching, bending, twisting, walking, climbing stairs & ladders, ability to hear to diagnose mechanical troubles, and the ability to handle heavy and bulky objects.

Relocation

Salary Range

From $44,460 to $47,566 per annum.
