Duties

Visitor Services Attendants - Campgrounds and Gates
• Visitor services and revenue collection at entrance gateways, and campgrounds to enhance the visitor experience.

Visitor Services Attendants - Information Centres
• Visitor services and revenue collection at information/visitor centres to enhance the visitor experience, which includes providing comprehensive information to the visiting public on a wide variety of topics including: campgrounds, picnic areas, roads, trails, points of interest, weather, safety, park features and history (natural and cultural), wilderness travel, wildlife, park regulations and policies, commercial accommodation and attractions; selling park use permits, wilderness passes and fishing licences, and properly accounting for revenue received; providing current and relevant data to the Public Safety Team via the backcountry reservation / search system; responding to e-mail and phone enquiries from the public and the national office webmaster that are related to visitor experiences; contributing information to park publications and web information.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada. Summer in Jasper National Park is a busy time and Visitor Services Attendants are expected to work with various teams to ensure delivery of professional and friendly quality visitor experiences.

Intent of the process

This process is intended to fill anticipated vacancies with the same work description, language requirements and various tenures (temporary, full-time, part-time).

Education:
Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards or/an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
Degree equivalency
Experience:
• Experience in interacting with the public in a reception/orientation capacity;
• Experience in anticipating/meeting public needs, resolving complaints, anticipating/detecting incidents and finding solutions;
• Experience in handling cash and operating point of sales.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Additional Experience:
• Experience in maintaining/restocking supplies and equipment;
• Experience in the maintenance of facilities.

Operational Requirements:
The position requires the incumbent to:
• Make moderate physical effort to sit and stand for prolonged periods and/or to clean facilities/grounds;
• Be exposed to variable weather conditions;
• Be exposed to noxious odours from car fumes; to dust, cleaning products and wet conditions;
• Be exposed to minor injury when performing cleaning and maintenance activities;
• Occasionally demonstrate tasks to others.

Conditions of employment
