Do you have in-depth knowledge of fish culture management and enjoy working within a team environment? If so, consider this opportunity to apply your technical knowledge and fish culture experience as a Fish Culture Technician. Come and make your contribution in supporting the health of Ontario's fish population and the work of Ontario's Fish Culture Program in conserving biodiversity and enhancing fishing opportunities.
• conduct and monitor fish culture activities
• plan and implement fish culture projects
• operate and maintain highly technical equipment
• meet stations goals and objectives
• provide leadership and technical direction
• You have an understanding of the Ontario Fish Culture Program and the role of fish culture in the overall fisheries management program supporting the province's delivery of integrated resource management priorities, such as rehabilitating native fish populations and enhancing natural reproduction.
• You can exercise tact and professionalism while interfacing with the public and serving as the representative for the fish culture station at meetings or on committees.
• You have a good track record of successfully planning and implementing projects to meet assigned targets.
• You ensure that you workplace conduct complies with worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated safety regulations.
• You are proficient with computer applications such as spreadsheets, databases and word processing software for effective data entry, analysis and reporting.

How do I qualify?
Mandatory requirement:
• You must possess a valid class 'G' driver's licence and the ability to obtain a class 'D' licence with a 'Z' endorsement.Technical knowledge:
• You have practical experience with fish culture, hatchery and husbandry techniques and activities, such as: water chemistry analysis, monitoring and ensuring fish health, egg collection and incubation, yearling production, management of brood stocks, inventories, fish and egg transfers and fish distribution.• You have an understanding of the Ontario Fish Culture Program and the role of fish culture in the overall fisheries management program supporting the province's delivery of integrated resource management priorities, such as rehabilitating native fish populations and enhancing natural reproduction.
Interpersonal and communication skills:
• You have the proven ability to maintain positive working relationships with station team, other program areas and project partners.• You can exercise tact and professionalism while interfacing with the public and serving as the representative for the fish culture station at meetings or on committees.
Technical and other skills:
• You have the demonstrated ability to operate and perform maintenance on highly technical equipment such as water quality monitoring instruments, water process and control system equipment, fish handling and marking equipment.• You have a good track record of successfully planning and implementing projects to meet assigned targets.
• You ensure that you workplace conduct complies with worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated safety regulations.
• You are proficient with computer applications such as spreadsheets, databases and word processing software for effective data entry, analysis and reporting.
