Adult Probation Officer (Growth) Social Program Officer 24 Salary $28.65 to $37.84 hourly This posting is for a half-time Probation Officer 24 Temporary Appointment in Dawson Creek until May 31, 2019. Note that the term of the appointment may be extended depending upon operational considerations. An eligibility list may be established to fill future PO 24 Temporary Appointment vacancies in both Dawson Creek and Fort St John. Regular employees must have their supervisor's approval prior to applying on the temporary opportunity. This posting is not limited to the geographic area. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply. Be part of a team whose goal is to maintain and enhance public safety. The Community Corrections Division of the Corrections Branch delivers programs and services to adult offenders or alleged offenders awaiting trial or sentencing, who are serving community based sentences of the court, or conditional release from custody. The intent of these programs and services is to enhance public safety by assessing and managing the risk of the offender and providing intervention to change behavior. As the Adult Probation Officer, you are responsible for a broad range of duties that include working with diverse community partners delivering numerous services within the community, ensuring that a multi-disciplinary approach is applied in complex cases and balanced with the maintenance of community safety. Working both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, you assess, manage and supervise adult clients subject to community supervision, assist the Court in determining appropriate dispositions, respond to client needs through the application of risk assessment and case management (including core programming) and act as a community resource. The successful applicant must be willing to participate in the supervision of clients convicted of sexual offenses and domestic assault. In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below: Applicants must provide written proof of meeting the -following three pre-requisites by emailing supporting documentation to Joan.Aalhus@gov.bc.ca by the closing date. Note: Candidates who are currently employed as an Adult Probation Officer (auxiliary or regular) with the BC Corrections Branch are deemed to meet the education, experience, pre-requisite course, typing skills and language proficiency index qualifications and are not required to provide proof. 1) Minimum Degree Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree (4 years; 120 credits); Applicants with transcripts from foreign countries must contact the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) which will evaluate the credentials and determine comparable levels in BC or Canadian terms. Documentation must be provided to the closing location by the closing date. Preference may be given to applicants with the following: - Bachelor’s Degree in a related social science (social work, sociology, psychology, criminology or education); or - Bachelor’s Degree with at least 30 credits in a related social science. 2) JIBC pre-requisite course You must have completed the following pre-requisite course offered by the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC): - CORR-1000 (formerly APO155): the Adult Probation Officer. Note that candidates who have worked as an Adult Probation Officer in another Canadian jurisdiction or as a Youth Probation Officer in BC within the previous two years, for a period of at least two years, are not required to complete the JIBC prerequisite. 3) Language Proficiency Index As one of the major duties of the adult probation officer is the preparation of court reports, it is essential that candidates have the requisite writing skills. To ensure candidates possess the minimum writing skills standards, the Branch employs the use of the Language Proficiency Index exam (LPI). Every applicant will be required to have completed the Language Proficiency Index exam prepared and evaluated by the LPI office at the University of British Columbia. Applicants must submit proof of Language Proficiency Index – minimum Level 5. Note that candidates who are currently employed as a Probation Officer in B.C. are exempt from the LPI requirement. Keyboarding Skills: Applicants must achieve a score of 30 words per minute on a typing test. (30WPM) Preference may be given to applicants who possess the following in descending order: - Completion of the PO24 training plan with completed Core Program training: SAM (Substance Abuse Management), LWV (Living Without Violence) and RR (Respectful Relationships); - Completion of the PO24 training plan with sex offender training; - Completion of the PO24 training plan; - Commenced and in the process of completing the PO24 training plan - Completion of the PO14 training plan; - Commenced and in the process of completing the PO14 training plan. Successful candidates must submit to and successfully pass a criminal record check and fingerprint screening by RCMP or municipal police, a Criminal Record Review Act check and JUSTIN and CORNET provincial database checks.
