Responsibilities
The Program Support Clerk position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Chief Business Office (CBO) Purchased Care (PC), Operations (OPS), located in Bonham, TX. Duties include but may not be limited to the following:
Claims and medical records are scanned in the Fee Basis Computer System (FBCS) and DocManager.
Reviews incoming correspondence to determine the nature of the question(s) and/or issue(s) and directs the documentation to the proper area for resolution.
Scans claims that are not accompanied with documents in FBCS.
Assists with editing of outpatient authorizations to change or identify the non-VA vendor or provider and amending the authorization to reflect effective from and to dates.
Enters claims disposition for unauthorized claims received for processing, claims are suspended and re-routed to FBCS.
Assists veterans and providers with requests regarding payments issues, correct address and Preliminary Fee Remittance Advice Reports (PFRAR).
Communicates with the Veteran to assist them in filing claims and explaining what action is needed by the Veteran to support their claim.
Receives telephone calls regarding denied/rejected claims for various reasons and notifies the voucher examiner when additional information necessitates a second review of the claim.

Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
May be required to serve a probationary period.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally sedentary in nature, sometimes requiring light lifting, and transportation of records.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: having a comprehensive understanding of regulations and rules, procedures, and operations relevant and pertinent to eligibility and the processing of medical claims, medical terminology, ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT codes and diagnostic codes, policies, law, and manuals; and performing tasks using computers, calculators, fax machines, letter opening machines, scanning, folding and copying machines.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Successful completion of four (4) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. One year of full time-time academic study is defined as thirty (30) semester hours, Forty-five (45) quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least twenty (20) hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately thirty-six (36) weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Combination of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
