Responsibilities
This position is located in the Beneficiary Travel Unit at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Processes Travel Reimbursement claims for eligible beneficiaries.
Schedules transportation with contracted vendors or volunteer van network.
Receives requests from patients, family members, and staff for lodging accommodations for veterans
coming for outpatient appointments or admissions.
Advises family members regarding death benefits and how to access those benefits.
Obtains funeral arrangements from next-of-kin and coordinate with funeral home for disposition of remains.
Processes withdrawals from restricted accounts as requested.
Schedules transportation with contracted venders or volunteer van network.
Processes patient funds control cards with deposits, withdrawals and account closures.
Resolves complaints, problems, issues concerning beneficiary travel claims from veterans, their families, representatives or vendors.
Completes death certificates coordinating with clinical services to obtain physician signatures and sends to county within time line.
Performs other duties assigned as it relates to the position.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required

Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
May be required to serve a probationary period.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is of sedentary nature with possible prolonged periods of sitting in one position. Susceptibility to eye and wrist strain with constant working on computer terminals. Some walking, standing, bending and occasional carrying of light items from one area of another. Majority of time will be spent in office setting with occasional vistis to clinic areas and other services. Must be able to work under adverse situations and function at an optimum level of concentration in an environment with frequent interruptions and many activities in progress simultaneously. The work includes the everyday risks and discomforts typical of offices. Normal safety precautions are taken.
Qualifications
TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-06: Possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Program Support Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as experience working in a medical setting managing inquiries regarding travel pay, special transportation, and eligibility for benefits; coordinating lodging accommodations for patients when coming to outpatients appointments or admissions; collecting and explaining insurance and benefits information to eligible patients and family members, operating computer systems and using applications such as Micro-Soft Office to enter and extract data; generating medical authorizations and communicating with providers for service.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
