Summary
The selectee for this position will serve as a MAIL ASSISTANT/CLERK in the Consolidated Mail Facility (CMF), Regional Navy Mail Center (RNMC) Branch, Hampton Roads Division, Supply Management Department Mid-Atlantic of NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER NORFOLK on Naval Station Norfolk, VA. The selectee will be assigned, on a rotational basis among, work stations and mail routes throughout the Hampton Roads Tidewater region and will provide mail processing and delivery support. Responsibilities
The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
Provide mail services support and perform various duties involving the control, processing, and delivery of incoming mail.
Maintain close surveillance for suspected harmful mail items, security violations, unusual and abnormal mail conditions,
and reports all postal offenses to the supervisor.
Perform general and detailed office duties in a wide variety of postal administrative procedures and other required
administrative assignments.
Males must be registered or exempt from Selective Service. www.sss.gov
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
May be required to successfully complete a probationary/trial period.

Requirements:
Active duty military members MAY apply under this announcement. If selected, appointment eligibility requirements must be met prior to the effective date of appointment.
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final secret level security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Work requires lifting and moving heavy items.
Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. For the GS-06 level position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing administrative and/or clerical work related to the processing of incoming and outgoing mail using knowledge of United States Postal Service regulations and practices. Examples of specialized experience include the following: 1) Providing mail services support for an organization including the control, processing, and delivery of incoming mail; 2) Operating automated postal systems and/or similar mail handling equipment; 3) Utilizing word processing and database software, such as Microsoft Office or similar; 4) Maintaining and completing forms and files related to mail services
For the GS-05 level position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing administrative and/or clerical work related to the processing of incoming and outgoing mail using knowledge of United States Postal Service regulations and practices. Examples of specialized experience include the following: 1) Assisting in providing mail services support for an organization such as the control, processing, and delivery of incoming mail; 2) Operating automated postal systems and/or similar mail handling equipment; 3) Utilizing word processing and database software, such as Microsoft Office or similar
You may also qualify for the GS-05 level by Having sucessfuly completed four years of education above high school . This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR OR Possessing a combination of the education and experience, listed above. If using education to meet all or part of the requirements you must include a copy of your transcript(s) with your application.
