  Typical work assignments include: 
  

  • Serving as an investigator, technical advisor and exam conductor in the field of polygraph examinations;
  • Preparing comprehensive and timely reports of the outcomes of polygraph examinations; and
  • Fostering harmonious working relationships with other federal, state, and local law enforcement, intelligence and/or trade communities.

  The qualification requirements listed above must be met by Wednesday, September 27, 2017 and are subject to verification at any stage of the application process.
  Candidates that meet the prerequisites for the training program (see below), but have not completed the requirements of the basic federal polygraph training program from the National Center for Credibility Assessment (NCCA) or equivalent will be trained and certified. Candidates will be required to attend and successfully complete a 14 week training program at the National Center for Credibility Assessment located in Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
  Failure to complete the program and obtain Federal Polygraph Training and Certification will result in termination from  U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
  In order to attend the National Center for Credibility Assessment you must meet the below admission requirements:
  

  • U.S. Citizenship;
  • At least 25 years of age;
  • Earned baccalaureate degree from a four-year college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education;
  • At least two years investigative experience with a recognized U.S. Government agency or other law enforcement agency; and
  • Successful completion of a Psychophysiological of Deception (PDD) examination.

  
  

  Qualifications

  Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. 
  You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level performing duties such as:
  

  • Preparing subjects for polygraph examinations; and
  • Working in a law enforcement environment conducting interviews, examining records or evidence, observing suspects' activities, and assisting in conducting security investigations, and investigating criminal activity.

  You qualify for the GS-13 level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent performing duties such as:
  

  • Identifying case issues and evidence needed, based on analysis of charges, complaints, or allegations of law violations;
  • Preparing subjects for polygraph examinations, and evaluating suitability for testing and analyzing results

  Quality Ranking Factor:
  You will be asked the question below as part of the online self-assessment questionnaire.  Candidates will receive a higher score based upon their responses to the following:
  Are you a federally certified polygraph examiner who has completed the requirements of the basic federal polygraph training program from the National Center for Credibility Assessment (NCCA) or equivalent?
