  Responsibilities

  This position is located in the Veterans Affairs Health Care System, in Kerrville, Texas. As a Housekeeping Aide, will be responsible for maintaining acceptable sanitation standard in his/her assigned area in accordance with Environmental Management and Medical Center policy. You will perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping duties. Duties include cleaning wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas. Housekeeping Aides sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows and ceilings by climbing small ladders, refill toilet tissue and tower dispensers and move furniture. Housekeeping Aides carry out assignments with a minimum of supervision. Computer knowledge preferred, as many of the training modules and leave request must be processed electronically.
  
  These duties may include, but may not be limited to:

  PHYSICAL EFFORT: This position entails continuous walking, standing, stooping, reaching, lifting, bending pushing pulling, climbing and working in lifted spaces. You will be required to perform moderate to heavy lifting (40 to 50 pounds), pushing, pulling and carrying of furniture and equipment. Exposure to various contagion's and infections is a constant hazard as is the danger of cuts and stabs from glass, metal objects and needles found in trash, electrical shocks in equipment and slips on wet floors. Skin rashes and allergies due to strong detergents and disinfectants are possible. You must work in close proximity to persons who are ill and must adjust accordingly. Work is subject to numerous interruptions by those who are attending or visiting patients.
  
  WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to various contagions and infections is a constant hazard as is the danger of cuts and stabs from glass, metal objects and needles found in trash, electrical shocks in equipment and slips on wet floors. You may be subject to occasional noise, skin irritations, cuts and bruises. Skin rashes and allergies due to strong detergents and disinfectants are possible. Apply appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required during isolation and terminal cleaning.
  
  IMPORTANT NOTICE: By law, Housekeeping Aid positions may only be filled with applicants eligible for Veterans' Preference when announced to US Citizens.   Qualifications

  Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C (http://ift.tt/1fuPbMF). For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.
