    The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is one of the largest health care facilities within the Department of Veterans Affairs. It is one component of the VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network (VISN22) offering services to Veterans residing in Southern California and Southern Nevada. VAGLAHS consists of two ambulatory care centers, a tertiary care facility and 8 community based outpatient clinics. VAGLAHS serves Veterans residing throughout five counties: Los Angeles, Ventura, Kern, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo. There are 1.4 million Veterans in the VAGLAHS service area. VAGLAHS is affiliated with both UCLA School of Medicine and USC School of Medicine, as well as more than 45 colleges, universities and vocational schools in 17 different medical, nursing, paramedical and administrative programs.

    Responsibilities


    This position is located in Imaging Service at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System – West Los Angeles Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. As a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) - Computed Tomography (CT), you will provide support to the department for routine x-ray exams including fluoroscopic, portable exams, and the Operating Room.  You will also provide coverage to the Computed Tomography section.  You will receive and interpret requests and instructions for procedures, review test results, position patients for desired results and determine technical factors for operating equipment.  Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
    ·         Performs all CT examinations at an expert level in multiple planes, including axial, coronals, sagittal and dynamic blood flow studies of the head and/or body;
    ·         Reformats CT images as directed by the Radiologist;
    ·         Determines the views and techniques to use based on patient interviews and clinician advice;
    ·         Verifies patient identity and confirms demographic information and takes appropriate corrective action as needed;
    ·         Utilizes all computerized equipment in the Diagnostic section and Operating Room;
    ·         Performs a variety of highly specialized exams such as gastric, urologic, endoscopic, fluoroscopic and diagnostic x-ray exams;
    ·         Performs daily pre-procedure calibrations on the scanner and interprets the information to determine if the scanner is within diagnostic specification and takes corrective action as necessary;
    ·         Selects the most pertinent images and electronically transmits them for image viewing distribution;
    ·         Trains new technologists and radiology students in various procedures
    ·         Practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self
    ·         Performs image reconstructions on advanced workstations;
    ·         Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients; identifies patient images; and explains exams to competent patients;
    ·         Operates a wide variety of computerized equipment and performs picture archival duties; and
    ·         Re-stocks, tracks, and reports the usage of all angiography supplies and related materials.
    Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Friday; 8:00 am to 4:30 pm OR 9:30 am – 6:00 pm
    This is a bargaining unit position.
