The Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) provides a variety of benefits and services to service members, veterans and their families. The VBA has been undergoing a major transformation that is people-centric, results-oriented and forward-looking, and which includes integration of solutions that will ensure total lifelong engagement with service members, veterans and their families.

Duties

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs Liaison Records Management Center (RMC) located in St. Louis MO. As a
Program Support Assistantfor the Veteran Benefits Administration you will:
  • Convert official military personnel folders (OMPFs) in NPRC's custody from a physical to a digital format for storage in the Veterans Benefits Management System (VBMS).
  • Extract information about or from OMPFs and other complex records groups in NPRC's custody to support the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) in developing and ultimately adjudicating claims for Veteran entitlements such as disability or death compensation or pension, medical and dental treatment at VA facilities, education, life insurance, and burial.
  • Investigates conflicting record information, apparent errors, or omissions of record and resolves discrepancies by preparation of a record of determination or other method.
  • Rsponsible for possessing a working knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures that govern military personnel and medical folders.
  • Assembles and summarizes data, background information, and other materials from publications and other sources.
  • Distinguish between problems that can be resolved through routine procedures for those that require specialized response and/or attention of management and organize suspense's to meet deadlines.
  • Evaluate information obtained and make a determination if facts are sufficient to make a reply. Posts clear and concise responses for more information in PIES when records cannot be identified; prepares referrals to Regional Office finance centers and Service Department Headquarters and posts located records in PIES.
  • Review VBA program systems to ensure Veteran information is accurate in regards to military records and related systems of records.
Work Schedule: First Shift, 0730-1600; Alternate work schedules are available.

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
