The position involves performing administrative support work associated with animal health field activity in Veterinary Services, SPRS Districts.  The duties will vary according to the needs of the District, as well as composition and organization of staff within individual District and District Field Offices.  However, the factor descriptions remain constant in all circumstances.

The incumbent is responsible for supporting the Assistant Director (AD) and the District Administrative Officer administering the National Veterinary Accreditation Program (NVAP) within his/her area of responsibility in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as outlined by the NVAP staff.

Salary Information:  First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lowest rate of the salary range for the grade selected.

Duties


The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.

The duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Assists License Veterinarians in the process of becoming Accredited Veterinarians by reviewing their applications, and entering them into the eVAP system once approved by the AD.  The NVAP Coordinator assists the veterinarians in getting access to the Initial Accreditation Training (IAT) modules that are required for Category I or Category II and provides certificates and issue dates as needed.
  • Works closely with the AD’s in their assigned territories and the State Veterinarians in scheduling Core Orientation seminars for new veterinarians wishing to be accredited.  Tracks all participants attending and sends reminder letters to the veterinarians of the scheduled date of the seminar; develops and procures the materials required for distribution at the Core Orientation; monitors attendance and enters the orientation and the IAT into eVAP; verifies the license, and insures the application is complete and signed by the State Veterinarian and the AD;  prepares and processes the approval letter and certificates for distribution to the accredited veterinarians.
  • Reports all APHIS-approved supplemental training (AAST) to the NVAP staff by coordinating the logistics and setup the meeting/conference; coordinates with the AD on presentations, certificates of completion, order forms, sign in sheets, and evaluation forms; and collects all evaluation forms and transfer them to the NVAP staff.
  • Explains the renewal process to Accredited Veterinarians, including accessing the NVAP web site, describing the process of completing AAST, and distributing NAN and renewal date.
  • Insures all accredited veterinarians in their area of responsibility will have an updated postal address and email address and enters any changes or corrections into eVAP; notifies the Accredited Veterinarian and the states for any changes in category; and updates eVAP when required.
  • Liaises with the Field VMO’s thru the AD in providing education opportunities to new Accredited Veterinarians and clinics; in liaison with the AD, prepares correspondence for all violations or actions and enter action into eVAP.
  • Works with their District Financial Services Administrative Officer (AO) on budget formulation; performs budget execution activities under the guidance of the Financial Services AO.
  • Works with the General Services AO, the SPRS AO, and/or the local Assistant District Director on general administrative activities.
