The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 4 temporary positions at Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Anticipated Entry on Duty: October 2017
Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument is comprised of three (3) dispersed units and the central office located in Mountainair, New Mexico. Elementary and secondary schools, limited medical care and limited shopping are available in Mountainair. Belen, which is 45 miles northwest of Mountainair, offers more variety and Albuquerque, 75 miles northwest of Mountainair, offers all amenities of a metropolitan area. Housing is available for rent and purchase in Mountainair at a reasonable cost, though available housing is not abundant. Park housing may be available.
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

Duties
Incumbent will serve Park Guide within the park's Division of Visitor Services at Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument, a designated bilingual/bicultural park. Serves as an active member of the park's interpretative team, the duties are to provide non professional interpretive and guide services to visitors and carry out daily operations of the park, operating out of the Mountainair Headquarters or Abo, Quarai, or Gran Qulvira Information Centers located up to 25 miles from park headquarters. Plans, researches and presents original interpretative programs to the general public and special audiences, based on park interpretative themes and accepted interpretive theory and techniques. Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of park resources and history, and uses various audio-visual equipment and interpretative techniques. Performs roving interpretation. In addition, uses layout and design computer software to develop interpretative media such as program announcements, site bulletins, and interpretative posters. Staffs information desk, answers visitor questions, provides basic orientation to park facilities and resources, provides information about area and regional attractions, explains park regulations and policies, provides safety information so that visitors may utilize park facilities safely. The ability to speak and understand Spanish is a desirable skill.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking for distances up to six miles daily, climbing and descending steep inclines, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items in a repetitive motion is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs. Extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland fire fighting and other emergency response duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed indoors at the visitors center as well as in outdoor areas resulting in exposure to extreme temperatures, rain, snow, wind and direct sunlight.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: If selected, the candidates "Duty Station" will be Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument (SAPU). Use of your personal vehicle (POV) will be required to commute to your scheduled work site located up to 25 miles from park headquarters.
