About the Position:
The US Army Garrison Adelphi Laboratory Center (ALC) serves the Soldier and collaborates with Army science and research by providing excellent laboratory facilities and support services.  The Garrison provides a professional work environment with the opportunity to directly impact the surrounding civilian community.  Generous paid leave and government holidays are additional benefits.  Free parking on-site.
Duty Location:
This position is located in Adelphi, MD which is in Prince George's County, a metropolitan area, bordered to the south by Washington, DC and to the north by Baltimore.  It is approximately 30 miles south of Baltimore and the White Marsh Area, and 10 miles north of Washington, DC.

NOTE: This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition. Civilian personnel of the Department of Defense are not exempt from this provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, selectee will be required to sign a form acknowledging understanding of this provision.
NOTE: As required by 5 U.S.C 3310 and 5 CFR 330.401, guard positions are restricted to preference eligibles. Non-veterans may be appointed to guard positions only if no qualified preference eligibles are available. Duties

You will serve as a Security Guard and will perform the following duties:
Maintain discipline, courtesy and appearance standards. Performs access control and patrol duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage and to enforce the security regulations of the installation. Verify identification through the use of identification cards, badges, automated records, verbal questioning, and other means. Allow entrance to persons and vehicles with authorization. Admit persons, deny entry or arrange for escorts, as appropriate. Conducts vehicle searches/inspections to include cargo areas, engine compartments and under carriages in accordance with standing operating procedures. Conducts foot and vehicle patrols of perimeter, roadways, parking lots and other high traffic areas as well the interiors of other installation buildings and structures.
Operates two-way communications equipment to summon emergency vehicles and crews when assistance is needed. Implements enhanced security in the event of bomb, fire or other threats. Maintains duty journal and prepares written reports to document unusual situations and conditions.

For the GS-05:
To qualify at the GS-05 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level, GS-04. Specialized experience at this level is defined as experience performing access control and patrol duties for the purpose of safeguarding personnel, information, operations, and critical assets in accordance with a wide variety of rules and agency/local regulations/policies.
For the GS-06:
To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level GS-05. Specialized experience at this level is defined as experience as qualifying work is work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the detection and prevention of theft, damage and/or trespass, performing vehicle searches, confiscating unauthorized items, directing traffic flow, verifying identification and controlling access to premises that provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

• Skill in Situational Awareness
• Skill with Written and Oral Communications

• Must be able to obtain and maintain an Individual Reliability Program certification IAW Army Regulation (AR) 190-56/The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
• Must pass an initial and semi-annual weapons qualification test.
• Position requires that you complete and successfully pass a semi-annual weapons qualification test.
• Position requires that you take and pass a Pre-Employment physical exam initially and annually thereafter.
• Position requires that you complete and pass a physical ability test on an annual basis.
• Position requires that you submit to random urinalysis testing and sign an IAW R 600-85, DA Form 5019R drug testing position form.
• Position requires that you complete regularly scheduled training to include security guard training.
• Position requires that you successfully complete CPR and First Aid training and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
• Position requires that you wear the uniform provided by the installation.
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Position requires rotating shifts that include weekends and holidays.
• Position requires that you may work overtime.
• Position is designated as mission essential and subjects the incumbent to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
• Position requires good eye/hand coordination is required to operate radios and security weapons and equipment.
• Position requires work indoors and outdoors and exposure to inclement weather.
• Subject to possible civil actions due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the detention of individuals.
• Position requires your participation in regularly scheduled training the techniques of the use of deadly force, anti-counter-terrorism first air, firearms, search and seizure, security operations and enforcement of installation rules, regulations and policies.
