About the Agency

The selectee for this position will serve as a Security Assistant at the GG-09 grade level performing administrative support and assistance tasks involving the development, maintenance, and preparation of a variety of security functions involving information/physical security and/or industrial security programs.

This position is located in Suitland, MD.

Duties

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

• Research in-house records, reference materials, and manual or automated databases at managers request for security information.
• Maintain follow-up systems to ensure new and current employees' completed investigative requirements are properly documented into appropriate databases and security files.
• Collect data from various sources to provide reports and other documents to management.
• Proofread and edit written security correspondence for efficient communication.
• Draft written responses to requests for security information.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at the GG/GS-08 grade level performing some or all of the following duties:

1) Conducting security inspections to identify and resolve security problems to ensure compliance with personnel security regulations and procedures.
2) Preparing and drafting memoranda, messages, or endorsements related to security matters.
3) Inputting data into personnel security program databases to ensure that all required security forms are verified for completion.
4) Assisting with personnel security processes (e.g., initiate personnel security investigations).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Selectee must complete a Special Background investigation and receive a favorable adjudication by a determining authority. A Top Secret security clearance is a requirement of this position and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). Failure to obtain and maintain this required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a position offer or removal. If you possess a security clearance, please indicate the level and termination date in your resume.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment. Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing. Drug test results will be provided to the employing activity/command.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

All Defense Intelligence positions under the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) are in the excepted service by specific statute, 10 U.S.C. 1601. This position is in the excepted service. Non-DCIPS applicants selected for a DCIPS position must acknowledge in writing, prior to actual appointment to the DCIPS position, that the position for which he or she has been selected is in the excepted service and covered by DCIPS. Federal employees currently serving in the competitive service must also acknowledge that they will voluntarily leave the competitive service by accepting an offer of employment for a DCIPS position. This acknowledgement is necessary as movement between the excepted service and competitive service may be limited if the employee does not possess competitive status.

Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) requires that all new employees successfully complete a two-year trial period if not previously completed in a prior DCIPS appointment.
