Duties

This position serves as a Purchasing Agent within the Engineering Service at the VA Boston Healthcare System in West Roxbury, Massachusetts.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Performing a wide variety of administrative tasks associated with maintaining and supporting the Engineering section;
• Acting as primary liaison between the West Roxbury campus Engineering office and administrative offices outside the organization;
• Typing and submitting reports and documents;
• Transcribing and compiling reports, documents and statistical data for the Engineering service;
• Managing government vehicle reservations for the Fleet and submitting monthly reports of use;
• Coordinating procurement activity in the Engineering service;
• Establishing procedures for prompt reconciliation and approval of credit card statements; and
• Entering non-purchase card requests for materials and service and alerting the Chief, Engineering or other designated Control Point Official of need for approving transactions and following-up on the status of requests.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position at the GS- 5 level, you must meet one of the following Minimum Qualifications requirements.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service (GS-4), with responsibilities close to the work of this position that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Purchasing Agent.

Specialized experience is: Performing some general purchasing agent support work with tracking cooperative agreements or contracts within an organization; Searching, assembling and summarizing information from files and documents as required for reports; and Communicating both orally and in writing.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE
Successful completion of four (4) years of education above high school, leading to a bachelor's degree, or a bachelor's degree in any field for which a high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.

Four years of progressive undergraduate study or 120 semester hours meets the degree requirements. Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

You must have an equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and experience, as described above. Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
