Duties
This position is located at the Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. The incumbent will be a part of the Surgery & Perioperative Care, for Anesthesia Service. Incumbent will be responsible for calibrating, maintaining and recording quality control data from a variety of analyzing devices and performing assays as needed.
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Prepares, calibrates, and connects monitoring equipment to surgical patients.
· Installs, prepares, calibrates, maintains, and modifies electronic and mechanical equipment used for anesthesia induction and maintenance.
· Cleans all surfaces, machines and equipment.
· Assists anesthesia providers with placement of a-lines, central lines, regional anesthetics, etc.
· Cleans and maintains Fiberoptic scopes and TEE Probe.
· Ensures all bins, shelves, drawers and cabinets in the anesthesia workroom are properly stocked.
· Troubleshoot equipment and monitor problems, placing work repair orders and coordinating its return with Biomed service. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, rotating shifts, 6:00am - 2:30p; 11:00am - 7:30pm; 2:00pm - 10:30pm. Functional Statement Title/#: Medical Instrument Technician/057480

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
· U.S. citizenship
· Licensure or Certification: Licensure or Certification is not required for this occupation; however, Basic Cardiac Life Support(BCLS) certification is desirable.
· English Language Proficiency: Medical Instrument Technicians must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, you must also meet the following:
You must possess at least one year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics related to the duties of the positions to be filled. Qualifying experience is experience cleaning, preparing and stocking anesthesia machines, anesthesia carts; connecting and operating non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment, blood and fluid warmers (e.g., Hot Line and Ranger) and patient warming devices (e.g., Bair Hugger); and assisting anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in routine anesthetic procedures. (Note: Your resume must reflect the experience above to qualify for the position.)
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
1. Knowledge of the fundamentals of standard equipment operation, calibration and function.
2. Knowledge of correct use of non-invasive patient monitoring equipment specific to anesthesiology.
3. Ability to appropriately interact with patients during anesthetic procedures.
4. Knowledge of anesthesiology supplies and equipment appropriate to routine anesthetic procedures, such as those found in typical inpatient setting.
Assignment: The anesthesia technician at this level assists anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in routine anesthetic procedures under general supervision. The technician will connect and operate non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment, blood and fluid warming (e.g., Hot Line and Ranger) and patient warming devices (e.g., Bair hugger). The technician will exercise moderate independent judgment in anesthesia technology duties.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
