This position is temporary and has a Not-to-Exceed date. However, an extension of the appointment may be possible without further competition. The appointment may also end early due to lack of work or funds.
This position is located on a Forest Service Unit Research Station. The incumbent assists higher grade employees by performance of specific analytical and evaluative tasks in support of information management resource management and planning.
This position is located on the Rocky Mountain Research Station in Missouola, MT.

Position will be filled as a temporary appointment as a not to exceed (NTE) 1 year which can be extended 1 additional year.
The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

Duties


Work assignments are specifically designed to provide the incumbent with experience and training in various tasks related to IT methods and practices, and to provide a foundation for more responsibility and career development in Information Management.
Compiles recurring reports of numbers of devices and software licenses, and cost estimates, for use in preparation of annual budget submissions.  Incumbent assists higher grade assistants or specialists with a number of other reports relative to the work of the unit.  Assists customers on procedures for acquiring information management services to include hardware and software, and assists with the acquisition of hardware, software and services in fulfillment of customer requirements for information technology. 
Assists with the procurement of services, equipment, and supplies with a Government Purchase Card, and tracking the routing of requirements documents during their review for propriety approval.  Assists with the management of contract receiving reports, and maintains recall rosters and quick-reference phone list.
Attends meetings with managers and supervisors to understand the process and assist with the development of plans and strategies, collects, reviews, evaluates, and interprets data.
Reviews and adheres to procedural directions and processes.
Assists with routine maintenance of software and electronic files, software testing, basic computerization project design, and HTML documents. Collects specific information from reference sources, software utilities, or customers and prepares reference manuals for end users.
Manages computer logs and records, and controls workflow.
Works cooperatively and coordinates with coworkers, supervisors, and senior IT staff.
