JOB TYPE: ADMIN-QUALITY
LOCATION:  MONTEGO BAY, ST JAMES

The successful candidate will report to the Quality Assurance Manager/Supervisor and the Plant Manager. The incumbent will be responsible overseeing the operations of the microbiology laboratory, third party microbiology testing and work towards the successful development and implementation of the laboratory’s quality management system with the goal of attaining ISO/IEC 17025 certification. Assisting the department successfully establish company’s food safety and quality management system towards international certification.

Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Develop and implement the microbiology laboratory quality assurance programme towards attaining ISO/IEC 17025 certification.
·         Manage, develop and lead microbiological laboratory team and provide support required to troubleshoot and resolve issues which may arise.  
·         Maintain integrity of microbiology laboratory and facility from materials through maintaining contamination-free environments throughout testing, processing and manufacturing of products. 
·         Support and maintain environmental monitoring programme to ensure food safety of the plant. Identify and investigate areas of concern and communicate information to all levels of staff.  Identify continuous improvement measures and work with the Quality Assurance  and Production teams towards continuous improvement. 
·         A thorough knowledge of microorganisms in foods and ability to apply such knowledge towards food safety and quality of products.
·         Review all product and product information to ensure accuracy in labeling and packaging.
·         Ensure that all Meat Plant quality checks are undertaken and documented and assist in resolving quality issues which may arise.
·         Work closely with the Meat Plant Production team to ensure compliance with product specification and regulatory requirements.
·         Actively participate in product research and development.

·         Ensure that all food products processed conform to public safety regulations and standards established by local regulatory bodies e.g. Bureau of Standards, Jamaica.
·         Ensure proper documentation of all non-conformances to CPJ’s Food Safety and Quality Management System (FSQMS) and the subsequent corrective actions.
·         Ensure compliance to all established SOPs, food safety requirements, good manufacturing practices, and sanitation requirements in accordance to CPJ’s FSQMS.
·         Perform internal audits and supplier audits as per the company’s internal audit schedule.
·         Oversee the use and replenishment of sanitation supplies.
·         Effectively complete all other activities as delegated by the supervising authorities.
  
Education & Experience:

·         At least a Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology or Food Science or related discipline.
·         Working knowledge of laboratory quality management system and requirements of  ISO/IEC 17025
·         HACCP and ISO certification desirable.
·         Should have at least 3 years’ professional experience in a microbiology laboratory, preferably in the food industry.
·         Should have at least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory management.
·         Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety Regulations is desirable

Required Skills / Physical Requirements: 

·         Capable of analytical/critical thinking
·         Good decision making, planning and problem solving skills
·         Must display initiative and ability to work independently
·         Must be computer proficient including use of Microsoft platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
·         Well organized and methodical approach to work and the work environment.
·         Should possess good written and verbal communication skills.
·         Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with colleagues, staff and customers.
·         Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task.
·         Ability to work flexible hours as the needs of the service dictate, including out of normal hours as required
