For the GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-4 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Distinguishing a diagnosis from a surgical procedure and selecting the correct admission diagnosis code from the International Classification Code of Diseases (ICD-9) Code Book.
- Analyzing and coordinating all bed assignments for patients transferred from one ward to another while validating the medical necessity of the transfer.
- Maintaining concurrent statistical report several times daily on all patients admitted to the facility by ward, clinical service, attending physician, status, sex, diagnosis, and point of entry (i.e. clinic, ER, and transfer).
- Determining the eligibility of patients for inpatient care, advising patients who do not have proper documentation or identification as to how to correct the situation.
For the GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Distinguishing a diagnosis from a surgical procedure and selecting the correct admission diagnosis code from the International Classification Code of Diseases (ICD-9) Code Book.
- Applying knowledge of policies and procedures for the disclosure of medical information under the Freedom of Information Act, the Privacy Act, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), and directives issued by the competent authority.
- Reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting complex problems which arise between medical staff and administration to establish and evaluate criteria of admission, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures indicated, projected gains and losses, status of occupied/vacant beds, type of clinical services affected and utilization of beds.
- Analyzing and maintaining custodial inventory of all licensed and sleeper hospital beds and all factors affecting the availability of such beds including: admissions, dispositions, occupied bed, estimated length of stay, convalescent leave and MEDEVACS.

Substitution of Education for Experience:
GS 05: Successful completion of four years above high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
GS-06: Education is not creditable above GS-5; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
Combination of Education and Experience:
GS-05: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable.

The hours are AM and PM rotating shift and can include weekend work, holidays and possibly other shifts under extenuating circumstances.
