Duties
Duty Location: Miami VA Healthcare System - Miami, FL
The incumbent functions as a Transportation Assistant at the Miami VA Healthcare System with specific responsibility in the area of travel and financial activity in the Fiscal Service. The Miami VA Healthcare System is one of the busiest and most complex in the nation with over 2500 employees with numerous outpatient clinics dispersed over a large geographic region. Additionally, the hospital and clinics support and trains a large number of residents, interns, and trainees in a wide variety of medical specialties and healthcare occupations through multiple academic affiliations. The facility is a complexity level 1-A facility.
The duties and responsibilities of the Travel Assistant, as the travel technical expert at this facility, include the following:
· Advises employee travelers on regulations pertaining to temporary duty travel (TDY), procedures and entitlements.
· Assists travelers in developing their itineraries to ensure that the purpose of the travel is fulfilled while minimizing travel cost.
· Provides information regarding air, rail, ground transportation and fares to the travelers. Government owned transportation is to be used when available and is advantageous to the VA.
· Coordinates each travel episode with the contracted Travel Service verifying the itinerary and ticket issued (if appropriate) correspond with the travel authorized. Ensures the lowest contract fare is charged, authorizing exceptions to the itinerary when there is a cost to the VA.
· Validates each traveler application which includes the Travel plan, Airline/Train ticket, itinerary memorandum of expenses and employee responsibilities.
· You will perform all duties as assign.
Work Schedule: Full-time Employment; Monday thru Friday: 7:30am to 4:00pm
