About the Agency

This position is located in the Defense Media Activity (DMA), which is a Department of Defense (DoD) field activity reporting to the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs). The DMA is a worldwide media organization employing state-of-the-art and emerging multimedia production and distribution technologies and operates from multiple locations in the US and overseas and with deployed combat and contingency forces throughout the world.

This position is part of the Defense Media Activity, Defense Media Activity. The student serves in a developmental capacity acquiring experience in the following Federal civilian human resources disciplines: classification, recruitment and placement, employee benefits, Workers Compensation, and Human Resources Automated Systems.

Duties

As a Student Trainee (Human Resources) at the GS-0299-3 some of your typical work assignments may include:

• Applies basic human resources rules, procedures, and operations sufficient to accomplish routine support tasks within the HR office.
• Supports HR Specialists by maintaining files and/or employee records, position descriptions, training records, or other HR items; and provides routine information to serviced agency employees.
• Assists in accomplishing basic processes of the particular subject matter specialization to which assigned.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS- GS-03, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. Six months of general experience equivalent to the GS-02 grade level in the Federal service:

• I have least six months of responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills to perform the duties of a Student Trainee (Human Resources).; OR

B. Completed at least one year of education above the high school level that has been completed in an accredited business, secretarial, technical school, junior college, college or university.; OR
C. You have some general experience as described in A, but less than one year; and you have more than six months but less than one year of education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of

your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter
hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by
a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such
education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or
