This position is located at AQUATICS, RECREATION BRANCH, SEMPER FIT DIVISION. Candidates selected for this position will serve as a LEAD LIFEGUARD for MCCS.

Duties

Incumbent is assigned to one or more specialized recreational activities such as the following: Marina/Fishing Pier, Community Activities, ITT Office, Campsites/Cottages, Arts & Crafts, Fitness/Athletics, Golf Course, Skeet Range, Youth Activities, Bowling Center, and Stables.
Leads swim instructors, lifeguards, and recreation attendants during pool operation.  Ensures pool is properly opened and secured daily.  Prepares schedules, assigns duties, and completes timesheets.  Safeguards all government property and equipment.  Enforces all safety and swimming regulations. 
Responsible for proper cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance of pool.  Follows proper cash handling procedures, handles swim lesson registration, and opens and closes cash registers daily as needed.  May act in the capacity of Swim Instructor, if certified.  Assumes lifeguard post when necessary.  Informs supervisor of all special circumstances in a timely manner.
 Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.  Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.  Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
 Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum two year related experience.  Knowledge of Base and Department regulations and policies regarding swimming pool operations.  Knowledge of how to report emergencies and secure necessary outside assistance.  Must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification; Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications.  Dexterity to handle a person in the water who may panic or be unconscious.  American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors certification preferred, but not required.  National and state background checks are required for position.  This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.
