The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Dilorenzo Clinic and the Joint Pathology Center, provide world class medical services to the nation's service members and their families.
Parking at WRNMMC is very limited and is primarily first come, first serve. The use of commuting alternatives is highly recommended. The Mass Transit Fringe Benefits (MTFB) are available to Federal Civilian employees. This is in addition to the current salary, up to $ 125 per month (subject to change), for the commuting costs using Mass Transit. MTFB can be applied to rail, bus and/or approved vanpools but not parking costs.
About the Position:
This is a 23 bed medical surgical nursing unit located within the Directorate for Nursing, Urology Trauma WW & Ortho Nursing, (4C). The Nursing Assistant will assist the Registered Nurse and License Practical Nurse staff in taking care of Active duty, retirees and their family members. Patient population includes, but not limited to Urology, Orthopedic, General Surgery and Bariatric patients. The unit also takes care of wounded warrior from theater of operation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires periods of standing and walking through the clinic/unit. Recurring lifting and positioning of objects greater than 50 pounds may be required for periods of time during patient care. Other strenuous physical exertions may include defending oneself against physical attack from confused or combative patients.

Duties
You will perform a variety of nursing care duties, ranging from routine to moderately specialized in nature. Provide assistance to a professional nurse. Monitor patients and take vital signs to make observations and identify abnormal findings. Provide assistance to a doctor during examination and treatment. Set up equipment and instruments for routine and complex examination and procedures. Drape patients for examinations and treatments. Prepare patients for examination. Recognize adverse signs and symptoms immediately and calls for assistance. Document patient's chief complaints and other pertinent information in the electronic medical records. Perform general maintenance duties including cleaning and arranging supply carts, cleaning and sorting supplies, instruments, and equipment; cleaning utility rooms, handling linen according to infection control policies and cleaning patient exam rooms. Maintain adequate supplies in patient care areas, labels specimens, monitors stock levels and expiration dates of supplies and equipment and replenishes as needed.

Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute, the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must provide a copy of your transcripts as part of your application package.)

This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
