This is a Pathways Program Internship position NTE 1-year.
The OIG is a statutorily created independent entity whose mission is to deter and detect waste, fraud, abuse and misconduct in DOJ programs and personnel, and to promote economy and efficiency in those programs. The Inspector General (IG) is appointed by the President subject to Senate confirmation, reports to the Attorney General and Congress. The OIG investigates alleged violations of criminal and civil laws by DOJ employees and also audits and inspects DOJ programs.
This excepted service position is being filled under the provisions of the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities. The program allows students to be exposed to the work of the Government through Federal internships while pursuing their degree. The internship also provides Federal managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to their curriculum studies or career goals.
This vacancy may be used to fill other similar and/or comparable positions throughout the agency within the stated duty station.
This is a temporary Pathways Internship Program appointment excepted service NTE 1-year, and may be extended in 1-year appointments based on program needs and if the student continues to meet program requirements.

Duties
As an Information Technology Intern GS-2299-5, your typical work assignments may include the following:
performing a variety of tasks in information technology and information systems,
working with a variety of programming languages,
developing programs and scripts,
creating test data, executing tests, and verifying results,
and contributing ideas and designs to the project work.

You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
You must register with Selective Service, if applicable.
You must meet half-time student enrollment requirements.
You must successfully pass initial and are subject to random drug tests.
You must pass a background investigation, and credit check.
You must submit a transcript or proof of admission with your application.
You must have a GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
You must be able to work a minimum of 24 hrs per wk during the school year.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
The basic qualifications of the Pathways Intern program include:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a Technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school, at a qualifying educational institution on a half-time or full-time basis.
Must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 2.5 or better (must provide a transcript and proof of enrollment/acceptance letter); these standards will be in effect for the duration of the internship.
Must maintain enrollment/continue education throughout the duration of employment under the Pathways Program.
Minimum Qualifications: In addition to meeting the Basic Qualifications stated above, you must also meet the minimum qualifications for the appropriate grade level. To qualify for the GS-5 grade level, you must have completed 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree, OR you must have at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 level in the federal service.
Examples of specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical office support work that indicates the ability to perform the duties of a General Office and Administrative Support Intern. Examples of specialized experience include: assisting to analyze IT related problems and identify significant factors; gathering pertinent data and recognizing solutions; and communicating effectively orally and in writing.
Preferred Majors: Computer Science, Information Technology, and Computer Information Systems (CIS).
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet this criteria, see www.ed.gov
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. It is your responsibility to timely provide such evidence by submitting proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency with your application materials. you must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or better for the duration of this internship (failure to meet this requirement will result in immediate termination).
