This position is subject to the hiring freeze under the Presidential Memorandum, dated January 23, 2017. This vacancy announcement is being posted for recruitment and qualifications determination. Duties

These positions are located within the Telecommunications Section of the Police Service at the New York Harbor Healthcare System, Brooklyn, NY. The purpose of this position is to provide the services and perform the duties of switchboard and telecommunication operations of the medical facility. The work involves routing the calls to their proper destinations and providing telephone and organizational information to callers. The switchboard operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The employee is required to work shifts, nights, weekends and holidays as scheduled, in addition to dispatch, emergency communications and monitoring services. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Operates the automated call distribution phone system and UMBXICS attendant console;
Handles a wide variety of calls - local, long distance, overseas, and numerous emergency calls, i.e. bomb threats, crisis intervention, threatened suicide, etc.;
Disperses callers rapidly and professionally to the proper party or service within the Medical Center;
Monitors, tests, and records the results of the pager tests, consolidated facility alarms, audio logger, multi-facility closed circuit surveillance television, and emergency radio system;
  • Operating several complex computerized functions which include, multi-channel radio systems, closed circuit television systems, intrusion, panic, fire, cardiac arrest, crisis intervention, internal/external disaster, refrigeration, telephone, switch, and medical gases;
  • Placing overseas calls and faxes for staff members to communicate with overseas parties;
  • Handling incoming calls approximately 50% of the time using the computer for location of clinics, units, and staff members;
  • Monitoring a complex security closed circuit camera system;
  • Taking emergency and non-emergency police, fire, and ambulance complaints and dispatches the appropriate units to the locations required;
  • Insuring that the Police logger device and closed circuit TV recording devices are working properly; and,
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Rotating, irregular tours of duty (evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays).
