This recruitment will be used to fill a temporary position. This appointment is not to exceed 1039 hours in a twelve month period, although it may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.
This position is located at Navajo National Monument near Shonto, Arizona in the northeastern part of the state.
Duties
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Utilizing a variety of materials, tools and equipment associated with the repair and maintenance of structures and grounds;
* Performing minor plumbing repairs of limited difficulty such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures;
* Performing minor carpentry repairs of limited difficulty to buildings and quarters;
* May perform other duties such as painting equipment, masonry work and roofing; welding or assisting higher-graded workers with maintenance of utility systems in the facility;
* Operating a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated or the parts of systems worked on, are hard to reach that require you to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lift, carry and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: The monument headquarters is located on a remote sandstone plateau in northeastern Arizona on the Navajo Indian Reservation at an elevation of about 7,300 feet. The upland area is semi-arid with pinion and juniper forests and associated semi-desert plants and animals with isolated pockets of alpine timber in nearby canyons. Deep canyons originated near each separated unit of the monument where well preserved ancestral Pueblo cliff dwellings are found. Daytime temperatures range from 85-95 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer months and from 25-35 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter. Limited shopping and medical facilities are available in Kayenta, Arizona (35 miles from the monument). Major shopping, medical and dental facilities are available in Farmington, New Mexico and Flagstaff, Arizona which are both approximately 150 miles away.
